The following revised, updated, and / or upgraded decal sets have been added to the site:
• 1/48 scale re-edition of RCAF Mosquitoes: Canadians in Fighter Command #1
• 1/72 scale re-edition of RCAF Mosquitoes: Canadians in Fighter Command #1
Features of each re-edition are described in the lefthand scrolling column on the updated RCAF Mosquitoes main and individual web pages.
• 1/48 scale re-edition of RCAF Sunderlands: Canadians in Coastal Command #2
• 1/72 scale re-edition of RCAF Sunderlands: Canadians in Coastal Command #2
Features of each re-edition are described in the lefthand scrolling column on the updated RCAF Sunderlands main and individual web pages.
With all upgrade offer orders and pre-orders for the 404 Squadron Beaufighters, 418 Squadron Mosquitoes, and 422/423 Squadron Sunderlands now shipped, we’d like to extend a deeply felt thank you to all customers concerned for both your pre-orders and for your patience. We have only one old Digital Silk set remaining to upgrade (RCAF Fighter Recce Spitfires, anticipated May / June 2012), so the next upgrade / pre-order programme promises to be much less complicated and therefore more efficient on our end. We’re confident that it will be a return to the usually predictable turnaround remembered by our long-term customers.
The following decal sets have recently sold out:
• Sharkmouth Typhoon in both 1/48 and 1/32 scale. The 1/72 version had sold out late 2011 and a reprint is slated for early / mid summer 2012. We may also decide to reprint the other scales again and if so. Much later in the year.
• Also even though we’ve done recent reprints across the line, a number of IJN Aircraft Tail Codes selections are now at low or zero inventory again; the Yellow in both scales and White in 1/72 scale are down to a half dozen or less remaining. The average current stock of most others in the series is two dozen. The next reprint will likely be later in the summer.
• Meanwhile upcoming decal sets include deeply researched work-in-progress Special Editions on 413 Squadron Catalinas (including coverage of Birchall’s “Saviour of Ceylon” aircraft) and First Kill Hudsons (mission-marker endowed RCAF and USN uboat combat veterans) as well as a new sets covering all eras of Venturas in Canada (including RAF, RCAF, and US examples from the files of historian Carl Vincent) in two scales, select aircraft from our Early Canadian Military Aircraft vol.1 book in three scales, and Eagle Squadron Spitfires in four scales.

• 1/32 scale re-edition of RCAF Beaufighters: Canadians in Coastal Command #1
• 1/48 scale re-edition of RCAF Beaufighters: Canadians in Coastal Command #1
• 1/72 scale re-edition of RCAF Beaufighters: Canadians in Coastal Command #1
Features of this re-edition are described in the lefthand scrolling column on the updated RCAF Beaufighters web pages.

All direct purchase customers with current email addresses who own the earlier version of this set should have received an upgrade offer (to replace the older Digital Silk edition with the new screen-printed edition) via email already. If you are a direct purchase customer and did not receive the offer, please inquire at sales@aviaeology.com to find out how you may still qualify for the upgrade. If you purchased one or more Beaufighter sets indirectly (i.e. via another retailer) you may still be able to take advantage of the upgrade offer by applying to sales@aviaeology.com with proof of purchase attached.

• Our new screen-printed Imperial Japanese Navy Aircraft tail codes decal sets in 1/72nd and 1/48th scale have finally been migrated from our eBay store to dedicated direct-purchase pages on our website. There are 4 sets – Yellow, Red, Black, and White – available in each scale. The White sets in both scales sold out very quickly and reprints are in progress (ETA late November 2011). Other sets in the series, especially the yellow in both scales, are getting low in inventory and will likely be progressively re-printed through late 2011 – early 2012.
10 November 2011
• The 1/24 scale edition of RCAF Mosquitoes: Canadians in Coastal Command #3 has been reprinted. However, after filling back-orders only some 30 sets remain in stock as of this morning’s count.

26 August 2011
• The following decal sets are currently in reprint / re-editon:
• 1/32 scale re-edition of RCAF Beaufighters: Canadians in Coastal Command #1
• 1/72 scale re-edition of RCAF Beaufighters: Canadians in Coastal Command #1
• 1/72 scale re-edition of RCAF Sunderlands: Canadians in Coastal Command #2
The Beaufighter re-editions feature screen-printed decals (instead of the Digital Silk media used in the original edition), a new markings variation for one of the subjects based on new reference material, one additional subject aircraft, and a comprehensive selection of Beaufighter airframe data stencil markings. The set’s documentation has been expanded accordingly. The Sunderland re-edition features screen-printed decals and white “doughnut” elements have been added to the print as a quick fix for the over-sized port-holes molded into the venerable old Airfix kit’s fuselage halves.
As with the previous Digital Silk to screen-print re-editions (see 9 August 2011 News item below), direct-purchase customers will be invited to upgrade via email and third-party purchasers will be invited to apply for the same upgrade with proof of purchase.
The web pages for each will be updated ASAP after we have firm delivery ETAs from the print shop.
24 August 2011
• One month to CapCon hosted by IPMS Ottawa. Aviaeology is a sponsor of the event, and will have a vendor’s table there.
Both the surviving author – Tony Stachiw – and illustrator – Andrew Tattersall – of our latest book, Early Canadian Military Aircraft Volume 1, will be on hand to sign books. If you’ve already purchased one, why not tote it with you to the convention for a rare double signature.
Similarly, author Carl Vincent and Illustrator Terry Higgins will be on hand to sign copies of our previous title, AviaDossier 1: Canadian Aircraft of WWII. We will also have fresh copies of both books, as well as our earlier Dragons on Bird Wings volume 1 and the entire in-print range of Aviaeology decals available for purchase at the event.

• While Early Canadian Military Aircraft Volume 1 continues to sell very well, both directly and from specialty shop shelves, the team is nearly done assembling the text and visual material for Volume 2. We’ll be adding an information page for the new volume to this website within the next month or so.
9 August 2011
• Our new screen-printed Imperial Japanese Navy Aircraft tail codes decal sets in 1/72nd and 1/48th scale are now shipping. There are 4 sets – Yellow, Red, Black, and White – available in each scale. They are available now in our eBay store and, soon, from a number of retail shops worldwide. The eBay listings will be taken down once we’ve had the opportunity to post “proper” product pages on our website for these.
All direct purchase customers with current email addresses will have received an upgrade (Digital Silk to screen-printed) offer via email already. If you are a direct purchase customer and did not receive the offer, please inquire at sales@aviaeology.com to find out how to take advantage of the offer. If you purchased one or more sets of these decals indirectly (i.e. via another retailer) you may also take advantage of the upgrade offer by applying to sales@aviaeology.com with proof of purchase.
4 August 2011
• Artwork for a number of new decal sets are either in preparation or at the printers. These include a small run SPECIAL EDITION – one each in 1/72, 1/48, and 1/32 scale, covering the aircraft featured in Early Canadian Military Aircraft Volume 1. As usual, a pre-order incentive will be offered to direct purchasers once we have an ETA from the printers.
Also in the mix are re-editions of decals previously produced via the near print-on-demand Digital Silk process. These will now feature high quality screen-printed decals akin to all of the latest Aviaeology releases, and if determined to be necessary due to ongoing research, updated and / or expanded subject aircraft documentation. Updates will be posted here on the News Page as production progresses.

• Yet another very favourable review has appeared online for our new book Early Canadian Military Aircraft Volume 1. Links to reviews can be found at the bottom of the scrolling text to the left of the cover image on the book’s web page….
23 June 2011
• Please note that all currently held orders were processed with the intent of shipping via Canada Post. Some new book orders made it out prior to the lock-out triggered by the recent dispute between Canada Post and the union representing its workers. Of these, some may have made it to their destinations while others will be delivered once the dispute is resolved and the mail starts moving again.
There are also many orders – both new book pre-orders and ongoing regular orders – sitting here packed and ready to go once service resumes. Customers wishing to have their orders expedited through alternate means – one of the more expensive courier services – should contact Alison at sales@aviaeology.com to request a quote on upgraded shipping. Lets hope for a sooner-rather-than-later resumption of mail movement.
16 June 2011
• The discounted pre-order offer on the first volume of our new series Early Canadian Military Aircraft is now over. The extended offer to all Canadian Aviation Historical Society (CAHS) National Members is still ongoing until 24 June, as indicated in the CAHS President’s latest newsletter.
Once again we would like to thank all Aviaeology customers, old and new, for a very successful launch. Hopefully the Canada Post labour dispute will be resolved soon so all prepared orders can continue on their way. If you missed the launch, we still have some available of course, and specialist shops world wide should be receiving their initial inventories over the course of the next month or so.
Curious, but not committed? The new book’s web page has been updated with links to various online reviews…
14 June 2011
• Although only just recently arrived, the reprints of the following decals are nearly sold out again.
· AOD48003 Sharkmouth Typhoon
· AOD48007.1 VITAL STORM: Early Hurricanes part 1
· AOD48007.2 VITAL STORM: Early Hurricanes part 2
· AOD72007.1 VITAL STORM: Early Hurricanes part 1
· AOD72007.2 VITAL STORM: Early Hurricanes part 2
These are not likely to be reprinted again in the foreseeable future so that we can give preference to reprinting other sets as indicated in an early news item. The next to arrive from the printers will be the long awaited IJN Codes series. Subscribers to our e-newsletter, which includes all current customers, will be notified once we have a shipping schedule for these.
Other new and reprinted / re-editioned decal sets will be announced a little later in the summer.

We’ve sent these out to reviewers. The main shipment is due to arrive mid to late June. A pre-order offer will be posted shortly.

8 May 2011
Reprints of the following decal sets are also in progress:
• AOD24011 More RCAF Mosquitoes in 1/24 scale;
• AOD48C20 Yellow IJN Aircraft tail codes in 1/48 scale;
• AOD48C21 Red IJN Aircraft tail codes in 1/48 scale;
• AOD48C22 Black IJN Aircraft tail codes in 1/48 scale;
• AOD48C23 White IJN Aircraft tail codes in 1/48 scale;
• Additionally, all 4 IJN Aircraft tail code sets, colours as above, in 1/72 scale;
We will post an availability notice here in due course. The AOD24011 reprint run will be very small (see the note at the foot of the 5 May entry below) while that for the IJN Tail Codes series should be substantially larger.
Also note that the IJN Tail Codes series are the first of our older sets making the jump from the Digital Silk production method to the Screen-printed production method. We plan to work through most of the OOS/OOP Aviaeology decal sets in this manner, with the goal of having all such “retooled” items on offer again by the end of 2011. As dictated by ongoing research and interpretation of new reference material, some of the reissued may also be actual re-editions as opposed to just reprints.
7 May 2011
Due to popular and ongoing demand the following decal sets have been reprinted and are now available again:
