Aircraft covered in this set:
• Hurricane I P2798 as LK•A of 87 Squadron (F/L Gleed, later S/L Gleed).
3 variations, including a nightfighter scheme, of this aircraft’s paint and markings are explored.
• Hurricane I P3576 as GN•A of 249 Squadron (F/L JB Nicolson, VC).
In this modified set, a replica of Nicolson’s personal marking – a little red devil emblem – has been included for this Hurricane. The emblem is based on a description provided by Nicolson himself to family members and seen, also in replica form based on that description, in the Nicolson exhibit in the Battle of Britain Hall at the Tangmere Museum.
Although no photographs of this aircraft have been discovered to date, we thought it an important enough subject to attempt nonetheless. Our reconstruction is therefore based on photos of other Hurricanes on the squadron around the same time (i.e. code lettering and national markings similarities), and on other Hurricane Mk.Is close in serial number (i.e. production batch similarities to P2798). Two possible paint and markings variation possibilities are therefore provided for. Two possible sizes of the Nicolson personal emblem have been included for the modeler to use at their own discretion as, after some discussion with researchers, no definitive conclusions could be drawn.
*A high resolution b&w (monotone) copy of the Docs is supplied in the package. The colour PDF e-publication (that you can use to zoom in to high magnification on-screen, or print out in colour) is automatically made available via email after direct purchase of this set.
Internet-connected registered owners of this set also get the PDF e-publication for free. All Aviaeology Docs e-publications are also available separately.
Features comprehensive decal placement and painting instructions, covering all subject aircraft variations.
A separate general decal preparation / application instruction sheet completes the package.
